So I had the chance to spend a weekend in Dublin last week to watch my friend run a half-marathon. It’s always nice to go back to a city you’ve already been to. You don’t feel pressured to do all the touristy things and can relax a bit. Sometimes you even see things you’ve never seen before!
My friend started her race REALLY early, so we walked to the starting line and then I started walking to the finish so I could get there before she finished. Along the way I got some pretty amazing sites of the morning along the River Liffey.
The race ended in Phoenix Park which was an area of Dublin I hadn’t been to before. It was really lovely with large green areas and beautiful flower beds.
The rest of our weekend was mostly about food and good beer! We went to the oldest
pub in Ireland which is called the Brazen Head. We also got some amazing Shepherd’s pie at a pub called the Hairy Lemon. We mostly went for the name but the food turned out to be amazing! As was the Irish Coffee. We also found a really quiet, small craft beer bar right across the street from City Hall called the Underdog. If you’re ever in Dublin, check it out!
Almost too soon, it was time to head back to Glasgow and back to writing our dissertations. We made one final stop at the Cake Cafe off of Camden street before catching the bus to the airport. I really glad to make it to this cafe because I tried to with my parents back in April but it had been closed for Easter weekend! It was well worth the wait though, I had the most amazing granola.
Until next time Ireland! I can’t wait to be back and see more of the countryside.
